About Us

The Lancaster Community Orchestra was formed in late 2002 by Roger Davis, who identified a need for a learning and performance opportunity for beginning to intermediate level players of all ages. Other opportunities exist in the Antelope Valley for very advanced to professional level players, but beginning, intermediate, and advanced players were looking for an opportunity to learn and play their instruments in an orchestra setting.

Six people auditioned in the spring of 2003. By April we had 34 players and played at the annual Lancaster Poppy Festival.

Our goal is to provide an opportunity for community members to be part of an orchestra and to learn about the music and its history as well as performance techniques. We play many musical varieties, including classical, pop, and show tunes.

In May 2006 the orchestra applied for and received 501c(3) tax exempt status from the IRS and the state of California and was recognized as a charitable organization. In addition to musicians, we are always looking for local businesses to become financial partners. Our expenses are for our conductor, the purchase of music, rental of a practice facility, and liability insurance.

The orchestra is open to all in the community who have or can rent their own instrument, have played for at least two years, and can read music. If you have ever considered playing for enjoyment and presenting music to the community, then we encourage you to join us. Please see the Join Us and Events pages for more information.
