Where Live Music Lives
HUGH MUNRO NEELY has been conducting orchestras since he was twelve years old. He has studied with violinist/conductor Alma Hewitt, with Thomas Summerville at the University of Southern California, and at workshops run by the Conductorsí Guild (in America) and Symphonic Workshops, Inc. (in Europe). He served as Student Conductor of the Brentwood-Palisades Youth Orchestra and Assistant Conductor of both the Fairfax Opera Workshop and Palisades Symphony Orchestra. From 2000 to 2005 he was Music Director of the Palmdale Youth and Community Orchestras. He has served as Music Director for musicals and operettas produced by the Santa Monica Theater Guild, Palmdale Repertory Theater, and Cedar Street Theater.
In the professional world he has specialized in music for silent films, and has guest conducted the Orchestra Filarmonica di Udine in Italy and in America the Fort Collins Symphony, the National Philharmonic and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in live performances accompanying classic silent movies of the 1920ís. He has recorded film scores with the Bohuslav Martinu Philharmonic, the Janacek Philharmonic and the Moravian Philharmonic (all in the Czech Republic) and the Rousse Philharmonic (Bulgaria).
Hugh and his wife Francie have been a residents of the Antelope Valley area for nearly 30 years. His granddaughter, Olivia, attends Quartz Hill High School.
